Project WebRevive: Design Phase
Project WebRevive: Design Phase
Scenario: The client has a pharmaceutical website that is not optimized for use outside of educational purposes. The client wants to improve their website to increase engagement and add an e-commerce section to virtualize their pharmacy.
The Design Phase of Project WebRevive entails:
- Scoping the ideas into a comprehensive plan.
- Developing a list of deliverables and work items.
- Analyzing the risk of each deliverable.
- Figuring out what to prioritize in the product schedule.
Scoping the Project
The North Star of Project WebRevive is:To improve home healthcare by leveraging technology to ensure easy access to over-the-counter medications and personalized guidance, enabling patients to confidently choose the right treatments for their symptoms, while emphasizing safety, education, and regulatory compliance.
With this vision in mind, several exciting features were considered for the project plan, but some ideas had to be placed in the backlog for future iterations. An example of this was:
- Medical Blog/News:
An up-to-date blog or news section that highlights medical concerns within the community.
While initially thought to be imperative for the website revamp, this feature would not directly contribute to improving the user experience according to the project's North Star. Therefore, it was deferred to a later phase.
After refining ideas down to a minimum viable product (MVP), the next step was to develop a list of deliverables.
Developing the Deliverables
Deliverables are tasks that, once completed, lead to a successful product. For Project WebRevive, the deliverables include but are not limited to:
- Curate a List of Questions for the Questionnaire:
- Identify relevant questions to guide patients toward appropriate over-the-counter (OTC) medications.
- Create a Flowchart for the Website:
- Design a logical website flow that seamlessly integrates educational content with the e-commerce section.
- Collect a Cause-and-Effect Matrix of Symptoms and Tied Medication:
- Establish a database mapping symptoms to corresponding medications.
Analyzing the Risks
Once the deliverables were identified, evaluating the risks associated with each work item became essential. For this specific project, one primary risk revolved around the questionnaire.
Key Risk: Comprehensive QuestionnaireThe concern was that the curated questions might not encompass or comprehensively diagnose the appropriate medication for patients. To mitigate this risk, a safety net was implemented:
- For medications without a one-to-one match between symptoms and medication, a pharmacist reviews and approves the AI algorithm's suggestion before informing the user about an appropriate OTC medication.
Prioritizing in the Product Schedule
Prioritizing deliverables in the product schedule ensures efficient project execution. In the next blog post, I'll discuss how we prioritized tasks to create an effective timeline.

Conclusion
Overall, the Design Phase lays the foundation for the entire project. Scoping ideas, listing deliverables, and analyzing risks provide a roadmap that leads to a successful pharmaceutical website. It's crucial to carefully examine every detail related to the vision to ensure a seamless process.
