Ideation Project PowerPlay
Scenario
As a long-time Sims enthusiast, I've encountered numerous challenges while playing this beloved game on my laptop. The most persistent issues have been lagging and overheating, which significantly impact my device's performance. Determined to elevate my Sims experience, I decided to take on the challenge of designing my own gaming desktop specifically dedicated to running Sims smoothly. Here's a glimpse into my journey and the features I've planned for my ideal gaming setup.
The Problems
1. Performance Issues:Playing Sims on my laptop has always resulted in lagging and reduced performance. This not only affects my gaming experience but also the overall functionality of my device.
2. Overheating:Extended gaming sessions cause my laptop to overheat, leading to further performance degradation and potential long-term damage to the hardware.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, I've decided to design a personal gaming desktop tailored for Sims. Here's a list of features and specifications that I've identified to create the perfect gaming environment:
1. Performance Optimization:
- No Lagging: The primary goal is to ensure the game runs smoothly without any lag. This requires a high-performance CPU and GPU, ample RAM, and fast storage solutions.
- Temperature Management: Implementing efficient cooling solutions, such as high-quality fans or liquid cooling, to prevent overheating.
2. Alerts and Notifications:
- New Expansions Alerts: Keeping me informed about new expansions and updates.
- Gaming Time Alerts: Notifications to track the amount of time spent playing, including countdowns and timers for better time management.
- Break Alerts: Reminders to take breaks during long gaming sessions to avoid fatigue.
- Temperature Alerts: Notifications when the device gets too hot, prompting a cooldown period.
3. Design and Portability:
- Compact Size: A compact and aesthetically pleasing design that can easily fit into my gaming space.
- Portability: Exploring the possibility of making the desktop portable or compatible with a laptop for gaming on the go.
4. Storage and Affordability:
- Sufficient Storage: Enough storage capacity to download and run Sims and its expansions seamlessly.
- Budget-Friendly: Keeping the cost between $500 and $800 to ensure affordability without compromising on performance.
Drawing Inspiration
I drew inspiration for this project from my own experiences and pain points. By focusing on these specific needs, I've been able to create a detailed feature list that addresses the common issues faced by Sims players like me. Additionally, researching the latest computer components and gaming trends has helped shape my vision for the ultimate gaming desktop.
Below are the high level deliverables for this project :
Conclusion
Designing my own gaming desktop dedicated to Sims has been an exciting and fulfilling project. By addressing the performance issues and incorporating user-friendly features, I aim to create a seamless and enjoyable gaming experience. This project is not just about building a computer; it's about enhancing my Sims journey and making it as immersive and hassle-free as possible.
